SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

Water Main Installations-Town of Harrison

A new 8 inch main was installed in Passidoma Park in conjunction with the new Town pool and facilities being constructed by the Town of Harrison.  Additionally, a portion of the existing main had to be relocated to accommodate new grading profile.

On Beverly and Highland Road’s in the Town of Harrison a new 8 inch main was installed in conjunction with the sewer and drainage FEMA project.  The existing 6 inch water main was in direct conflict and caused interference with the replacement of sanitary and storm mains.

In January of 2008, work commenced on Old Lake Street.  A total of 1,759 of 12 inch ductile iron pipe and three (3) fire hydrants were installed.  Additionally, the Town Board authorized the Water Works to have the contractor install service connections to the curb for each premise within the construction area.  Permanent paving will be shared by the Town of Harrison since a curb to curb replacement will be done.  Paving is expected is expected to be completed by mid 2009.

Town of Mamaroneck

A new 8 inch was transferred from the 6 main to the 12 inch transmission main on Rockingstone Avenue.  This project is to remedy the seasonal low pressures experience by certain residences on Springdale Road in the City of New Rochelle.  By upgrading the existing 6 inch cast iron water main which was installed in circa 1914 and connecting directly to the 12 inch, a greater pressure and volume will be achieved during extreme conditions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In 2008, all of WJWW’s source water came from the New York City water system.  The City conducted numerous tests on the water prior to it reaching our Shaft 22 connection or our Rye Lake intake in the Kensico Reservoir.  The City’s Annual Water Quality Report can be viewed on www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/wsstate.html.
