SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

In 2010, WJWW made a number of system improvements to its facilities in order to provide more reliable and efficient water service to its customers.  Among these improvements were:  a) significant upgrades to its SCADA system to provide improved remote computerized tracking and control of treatment plants, water levels in storage tanks, water pumps, chemical feed equipment and pressure regulators; b) doubling its remote radio reading capabilities for registering water use and thus reducing the labor intensive work on manual meter reading; c) installing a back-up generator at the main WJWW office and garage to ensure uninterrupted operations and service during severe wind, rain, snow and ice storms; and d) the installation of a number of new transmission line valves to improve water flow and pressure during periods of high demand.  With respect to water mains during 2010, WJWW completed a number of engineering designs for projects to be undertaken during 2011 for the following locations: York Road, Taylor Lane, Lundy Lane, and Davenport Road.  In addition, in 2010, WJWW completed annual inspections of all seven of its water storage tanks.  These inspections will form the basis for detailed integrity analysis and improvements for each tank beginning in 2011.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In 2010, all of WJWW’s source water came from the New York City water system.  The City conducted numerous tests on the water prior to it reaching our Shaft 22 connection or our Rye Lake intake in the Kensico Reservoir.  The City’s Annual Water Quality Report can be viewed on www.nyc.gov/.
