Article 4 - Meter Readings

Section 1.

Meters are to be read and bills will be rendered at regular intervals.  The customary interval will be three months, however major customers will be billed monthly.

Section 2.

The Water Works reserves the right to render bills based on estimated consumption where employees are not given access to the premises to read the meter.

Section 3.

All meters are tested before installation and after removal by the Water Works.  All meters failing to register properly will be replaced by the Water Works without cost to the customer.  In such cases, however, where the meter fails to register the amount of water used, the Water Works reserves the right to charge for the estimated consumption.  This will be based either upon the consumption of corresponding periods in previous years or a subsequent period, or other fair and equitable method.  All water that passes through the meter will be charged for, whether used or wasted.  Customers may test the accuracy of their meters by drawing seven and one-half (7 1/2) gallons of water through the pipes, which should register one cubic foot on the test dial.

Section 4.

Where a remote reader is in service, and the reading on the remote reader differs from the reading on the meter itself, the reading on the meter will govern.

Section 5.

If a customer wishes to discontinue the service, at least twenty-four (24) hours written notice shall be given to the Water Works.  Only employees of the Water Works shall turn off the supply of water at the curb box or remove the meter.  All charges shall continue until the service is so discontinued.

Section 6.

No charge will be made for readings between periods for the purpose of rendering a final bill to the consumer.  To resume the supply of water, where all charges previously incurred have been paid, the property owner or duly authorized agent shall file the usual application for service.
